This is too important to leave unsaid
Our country was founded on the principle that all men are created equal. Yet over the course of the last 400 years, Black Americans and people of color have not been treated as equals.
Last week, the world watched in outrage as George Floyd, an unarmed Black man, was murdered by a Minneapolis police officer. His last words of “I Can’t Breathe” are echoing throughout our country and the world as Americans in all fifty states and allies abroad protest documented police brutality and the systemic racism that poisons our country.
For 25 years, The Yunker Group has lived its mission of “Helping Others Make a Difference®” and recognizes the difference that urgently needs to be made in our society. We stand with those working toward and protesting for a better future for America. A better future in which Black Americans are not disproportionately affected by illness, as they are in the current COVID-19 pandemic; a future in which Black Americans are not incarcerated at 5 times the rate of white Americans; a future in which Black women are not 4 times more likely to die during childbirth than white women; a future in which Black Americans feel safe and supported, and not fearful and threatened; a future in which Black Americans are not 2.5 times more likely than white Americans to be killed by police; a country that uses its military for its citizens, not against them; a country that reflects its own values of liberty and justice for all.
As a consultancy to nonprofits, we continue to help organizations that are making a difference in Black lives and communities, and especially salute those providing legal aid, employment and mental health services, affordable housing, and those fostering peace and justice. We are proud to be associated with and eager to be of service to all who are involved in the noble work of philanthropy.
Through the admirable work being done by our client organizations, and countless other nonprofits throughout America, we believe a difference can be made. We urge you to take time to listen, reflect and take actions in achieving this difference because the color of one’s skin should not make a differnce.
